For a smoother soup, use an immersion blender to partially blend the soup before adding the sour cream. Be careful not to over-blend; some chunks of potato and bacon are desirable for texture. If you don't have caraway seeds, you can substitute with a pinch of celery seeds or fennel seeds. Adjust the amount of salt and pepper to your taste. Remember that the bacon and chicken broth already contain salt.
