For the flakiest scones, make sure your shortening and milk are very cold. You can even chill your dry ingredients beforehand! Don't overmix the dough! Overmixing develops the gluten and will result in tough scones. Mix just until everything comes together. Serve warm, preferably with butter and raspberry jam, for the full fair experience.
