For an even richer flavor, try using half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk. A pinch of nutmeg adds a lovely warmth to this soup. To make this soup vegetarian, substitute vegetable broth for chicken broth. If you don't have an immersion blender, you can carefully transfer the soup to a regular blender in batches to puree. Be sure to vent the blender lid to prevent pressure buildup.
