Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Combine Ingredients: Gently place all ingredients (except the milk) into your bread machine pan in the specified order, or according to your bread machine manufacturer's instructions. (5 minutes)

02

Step
3 hrs

Initiate the Baking Cycle: Select the 'Basic Bread' setting on your bread machine and press 'Start'. Allow the machine to work its magic through the entire baking cycle. (3 hours)

03

Step
2 mins

Enhance the Crust: Once the baking cycle is complete, carefully remove the loaf from the pan. While the bread is still warm, lightly brush the top crust with milk to achieve a beautifully soft and subtly shiny finish. (2 minutes)

04

Step
30 mins

Cool and Enjoy: Allow the malt loaf to cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and serving. The aroma alone is worth the wait! (30 minutes)

For a richer flavor, try using dark brown sugar instead of light.
If you don't have malted barley flour, you can substitute with whole wheat flour, but the flavor will be slightly different.
Ensure your warm water is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast. Aim for 105-115°F.
This loaf is also delicious when toasted and served with butter and jam.
